Described as Dexter meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith, this gripping thriller is about a married couple who seemingly lead very ordinary lives – taking care of their children and continuing to build their careers. However, this couple has a peculiar secret to their lasting marriage: Murder. They’ve gotten away with it so far, but when the heat rises, the secrets they keep even from each other boil over and scald everyone around them.
I found this book fascinating because it touches on an aspect of criminals, especially serial killers, that people don’t really like to talk about. That they often have families they love. Many serial killers were husbands and fathers whose families were utterly shocked when the truth eventually came out. We don’t like to highlight the aspects that make these criminals exactly like us when in reality, sometimes the only thing separating us is morals. These people have different levels of disconnection towards others that differentiate, at least in their minds, who is important and who doesn’t matter. If you are seen as unimportant to them, you are a potential victim. The couple in this book portray that perfectly as each seemingly has a different level of disconnect.
I listened to the audiobook read by David Pittu who did an amazing job. So, if you enjoy audiobooks, I would definitely recommend this one!
