Lighthouse Ache (original poem)

A lighthouse is a lonely building, to stand alone
on a wind-tossed island, only appreciated in
times of turmoil. Who would think to thank a
monolith constructed solely as a waystation
for the lost? And who would choose to make
their home on that isle of isolation built on
silent goodbyes? It is of little comfort to be
remembered fondly, if fleetingly, after the
realization you are easy to leave. When your
sole export is comfort and your only import is
heartache, how long can your light stay bright
enough to guide the broken to your shore?
